Work in the Community

I have been immensely proud of the work my colleagues and I have managed to achieve in these dire circumstances both pre and post local elections in 2021 where I stood and won in Hollinwood.

We have managed to try and make a dent in the issues are ward is facing despite the difficulties posed by the threat of COVID-19. This pandemic made it almost impossible to engage face to face with groups & people we would normally see in our day to day lives.

Despite this, the strides we made in terms of developing a litter picking and cleanliness schedule has seen us going to various areas across the ward engaging with residents, business’ and local Housing Associations on a civic pride campaign to stop littering and improve our area for everyone. This has been tremendously effective and something we will be continuing.

As part of this campaign we have trialed our own alleyway clean ups with help from our brilliant district team and the engagement of residents. One big success of this was the clean-up of the alleyway on Middle Gate which had very high engagement and truly staggering results that I am sure everyone involved with is still proud of. We were joined by local MP Jim McMahon in this venture who is fully onboard with the current program and all too thrilled to get into the action helping residents with the tons of mud that needed moving!

This is all part of the wider scheme - #Don’tTrashOldham – it is our turn in August 2022 and we plan to continue this on to keep our area clean and somewhere you want to live and have pride in.

Alongside this we have been involved in various local engagements and consultations in the area from going door to door with the COVID engagement team trying to encourage vaccine take up in the ward to spending time at St Chad’s with the NHS Vaccine Bus that was set up in the area. These helped with take up in the ward which was great to see.

We as a team are hopeful that going into the new year as COVID subsides and live begins to come back to normality that we will be able to meet and help more local groups in person and really get stuck into this on a local level. This is something I am keen to do and have been since being elected.

Alongside this I have been observing my day to day duties which include answering emails, phone calls, dealing with casework and attending meetings which include Planning Committee and Overview & Scrutiny Committee. I am also Vice-Chair of the Standards Committee.

As always – please do contact colleagues or myself if you ever need assistance with any matter. We are glad to help. Thank you.
