Work in thecommunity
I have worked hard to represent the residents of
Alexandra Ward since election in 2013. I regularly speak and
campaign on local and national media on behalf of the residents of
Alexandra Ward.
My ward colleagues and I are working towards a cooperative borough,
implementing the key labour administration visions in Oldham and
our ward.
Working cooperatively with residents I have helped with a variety of issues – fly tipping, anti-social behaviour, alley gating, bad landlords, traffic measures on high-risk roads and missed bin collections.
The Council has been at the frontline in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic; including distributing emergency food and medicine, providing vital social care, running testing centres and rolling out the vaccination.
One of the services I am most proud of Oldham for providing, is the new mental health service for our residents. It has been an undeniably tough time during the COVID pandemic which has put a strain on many people’s mental health. In the past year, we’ve received funding for 16 mental health projects that I’m excited to see get underway. These projects range from new online support that all our residents can access for free, more training of mental health first aiders, more early intervention for families in crisis, developing more local support groups, targeting those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and a host of other initiatives that I can’t wait to see start making a real difference in people’s lives.
These projects combined with what we’re already doing such as social prescribing, working with schools, and supporting our own council staff shows our commitment to the importance of good mental wellbeing.
