These safety railings were installed on the recommendation of a
coroner after fatal accidents. To remove them is dangerous and
irresponsible. To suggest Rochdale Road will be safer without them
is absurd.
Royton has a booming night time economy, I dread to think what
might happen to hundreds of people fuelled with alcohol if you
irresponsibly allow them to cross this unsafe busy section of road.
At the moment people walk up to the safe Tucan crossing to cross
the road because they have to. We want to keep it this way. We want
to keep Royton as safe as possible.
We the people of Royton demand that not a single section of these
safety railings are removed.
Removing the dedicated right-turn lane from High Barn street
onto Rochdale road will cause congestion. This is the last thing we
need at rush hour. Removing it will force more traffic to cut
through the residential area of Milton Street and come out of
Radcliffe Street onto Rochdale Road. This junction already needs
traffic calming measures due to a high volume of RTAs, it most
certainly doesn't need more traffic from Radcliffe Street. There is
no logical reason to remove the right-turn lane from High Barn
street onto Rochdale road.
We the people of Royton demand that it is not removed.
