Archie Brown Charitable Trust Update

Archie Brown Charitable Trust - 439 Middleton Road - the proposed disposal of this property

 

Verbal update to be provided by Officers.

Minutes:

Further to the Committee’s meeting on 15th April 2024 (minute 6 refers), Members were advised that the Council was waiting for approval from the authority’s Estates Team to dispose of the property concerned. It was anticipated that this approval would be forthcoming in January 2025, when the property would be marketed for sale by auction.

 

At the appropriate time an advertisement would be placed in a local newspaper inviting applicants to submit bids for funding from the Archie Brown Charitable Trust.

 

Resolved:

That the report be noted.

7.

Sarah Anne Lees Charitable Trust Update

Sarah Anne Lees Charitable Trust (proceeds from 146 Werneth Hall Road) and the application for Charity Commission consent to Charity spending up to 100% of capital.

 

Verbal update to be provided by Officers.

 

Minutes:

The Committee were reminded that at a previous meeting on 5th March 2024, it had been resolved that in respect of the charitable trust known as “The Sarah Anne Lees Charitable Trust”, an application to the Charity Commission be made to seek for authority for the Charity to spend up to 100% of its capital funds (which is permanent endowment) via donations and/or (on application) grant funding, to appropriate bodies or organisations that provide assistance or services in keeping with the objects of the charity. The Committee was advised that letters had been forwarded to the Charity Commission to give effect to the Committee’s resolution but no reply had yet been received. This matter would be pursued in early 2025.

 

The Trust’s monetary value was £312,368.25.

That the report be noted.

8.

Charitable Land/Trusts for General Annual Review pdf icon PDF 136 KB

Report attached.

Minutes:

Officers briefed the Committee on Charitable Trusts and Land that were due for annual review. None had changes proposed for the future. The areas concerned were:

a.    Clayton Playing Fields (Town green)

b.    Lower Failsworth Memorial Park (1924)

c.    Werneth Park and Lodges (Sarah Anne lees was original donor)

d.    Bardsley Playing Fields

e.    The Charles and Mary A. Ward Recreation Ground

f.     The North Moor Playground

 

Resolved:
That the Charitable Land/Trusts for General Annual Review be noted.
