To receive apologies for absence

Minutes:

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Al-Hamdani, Alyas, Briggs, Chadderton, Cosgrove, Dean, Garry, Hobin, Hulme, Iqbal, Leach, Moores, Sharp, Stretton, Sykes, Taylor, Wilkinson and Williams.

Honorary Alderman and Honorary Freeman Ceremony

A presentation will take place for Alan John Dillon to honour his title of Honorary Alderman as appointed by Full Council on 24th March 2021 the in accordance with Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, in recognition of his 29 years eminent service to the Council as a past Member of the Council

 

A presentation will take place for Frank Rothwell to honour his title of Honorary Freeman as appointed by Council on the 24th March 2021 in accordance with Section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972, in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the local community.

Minutes:

Consideration was given to a report of the Director of Legal Services which asked the Council to consider the appointment of Alan John Dillon as an Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Oldham in recognition of eminent service he has provided to the Council and the Borough.

 

A Nomination for Honorary Alderman had been received and considered by the Council’s Leader and the Leaders of the two main opposition groups.

 

Full Council may, at special Council meeting by formal resolution, bestow the honours of Honorary Alderman and the resolution should be passed by no less than two-thirds of the Members at a special meeting of the Council.

 

Councillor Shah MOVED, Councillor C. Gloster SECONDED and Councillor Sheldon spoke in support of the motion.

 

RESOLVED: that Alan John Dillon be admitted as an Honorary Alderman of Oldham as, in the opinion of the Council, he had rendered eminent service to the Borough of Oldham.
