To ensure that
Oldham has a high quality community outreach service addressing
genetics risk.
The purpose of the report is to seek approval to extend the current
contract for the provision of Oldham’s Genetic Outreach
Service from 1 April 2024 for a period of two years up until 31
March 2026. The service provides culturally sensitive and
appropriate support for communities within Oldham, working with
affected families with genetic condition, as well as raising
awareness within communities of genetic risks.
RESOLVED - That:
The contract extension period has been approved to continue with
the current provision to support families in Oldham affected by
genetic conditions, as well as raising awareness within communities
of genetic risks.
As detailed in the Purpose section.
Option 1 - To
cease commissioning the Genetic Outreach Service beyond the initial
term of the current contract.
This would not address the issue of consanguinity and its impact on
child health in Oldham.
Option 2 - To approve contract extension for existing
provision.
This is the preferred option. The service will continue to work
with families around genetic risk in order to address the increased
risk of deaths in children related to genetic risks, a contributing
factor to high rates of infant mortality in the borough.
