King Street Bridge - Parapet Works and Painting

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member - Neighbourhoods

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Award of a tender to a contractor for parapet works at King Street Bridge

Decision:

Approval for the tender award of the King Street Footbridge Parapet and Painting Refurbishment Scheme and the appointment of the Contractor for the works. Costs for the scheme were obtained by framework tender, the Council’s procurement process

Reasons for the decision:

Option 1 - The preferred option would be to award the scheme of King Street Footbridge Parapet and Painting Refurbishment Scheme to Bethell Construction Ltd. The implementation of the scheme is essential to eliminate the risk of vandalism, which leaves the footbridge unsafe for pedestrian use, the footbridge is to be refurbished with the construction of a new stainless steel parapet system.
Option 2 - The alternative would be not to proceed with the works, which will leave the footbridge with temporary parapet fence which is costly to maintain, and if not maintained will leave the footbridge unsafe for pedestrian use

Alternative options considered:

Option 2

Reason Key: Expenditure > £250,000 (Significant expenditure or savings);
