This report is seeking tender approval for the
chosen contractor to deliver the Broomes Park Flood Alleviation
Scheme (Phase 2). The tender award is expected to be in excess of
£250,000 but less than £400,000.
A number of properties on North Dene Park and Broomes Park,
Chadderton, suffer from flooding from surface water runoff and
groundwater from adjacent land (an embankment slope).
To positively drain the surface water runoff and groundwater, a new
highway drain is proposed. The works will involve the construction
of a highway drain along Broomes Park, Hunt Lane, wooded area
(south of Ferney Field Road) and the construction of a connection
to an existing United Utilities manhole on Ferney Field Road.
That the Contract for the works is awarded to
Eric Wright Civil Engineering Ltd
Option 1 - The preferred option would be to
award the scheme of Broomes Park Flood Alleviation Phase 2 to Eric
Wright Civil Engineering Ltd. The implementation of the scheme is
essential to alleviate against flooding to the properties on North
Dene Park and Broomes Park
Option 2 - The alternative would be not to proceed with the works,
which will leave the Council open to potential claims by residents
of North Dene Park and Broomes Park whose properties currently
flood as a result of ground water and surface water run-off from an
adjacent embankment (Oldham Council land)
Option 2
