Decision details

Stoneswood Road Retaining Wall Reconstruction

Decision Maker: Executive Director for Place & Economic Growth

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The report seeks approval for the acceptance of the most economically advantageous and methodologically sound tender submission in relation to the retaining wall adjacent to no. 24 Stoneswood Road, Delph

Decision:

RESOLVED - That:
If no works are carried out there is a danger of complete structural failure in the near future. This poses a risk to the public and to the stability of the adjacent garden and residential property. A collapse will also close the adjacent public highway. The reconstruction of the retaining structure removes potential liability to the Council

Reasons for the decision:

Option 1 - is to reconstruct the existing dilapidated masonry retaining structure using standard civil engineering construction methods to prevent future structural failure
Option 2 - is to do nothing and allow the existing masonry retaining structure to further deteriorate. However, there is a potential liability to the Council in the event of structural failure and damage to properties and/or injury/death to persons

Alternative options considered:

Option 2
