Commissioning intent with regards to Dementia Services and creation of a Dementia Strategy

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member - Education and Culture (Cllr Paul Jacques)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

This report seeks approval to co-produce with the CCG a Dementia Strategy for Oldham. Through the work of the Dementia Strategy we will be able to understand the needs of our borough in relation to dementia and we can use this scope to determine future commissioning intent.
In order to achieve this, approval is sought to exempt the current contracted services in relation to dementia from the contract procedure rules.

Decision:

RESOLVED - That:
that co-produced dementia strategy for Oldham is produced and the current contracted services in relation to dementia are exempt from contract procurement rules.

Reasons for the decision:

Option 1 - Do not agree to the creation of a dementia strategy and the extension / exemption of contracts. Let the contracts expire and do not re-commission.
Option 2 - Agree to the creation of a co-produced Dementia Strategy for Oldham with the CCG but do not agree to the extension / exemption of contracts
Option 3 - Agree to the creation of a co-produced Dementia Strategy for Oldham with the CCG and agree to the extension / exemption of contracts

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 and Option 2

Other reasons / organisations consulted

The Planning and Commissioning Team at the Council have discussed current commissioning activity in relation to dementia services with the CCG. Both organisations agree that it would be beneficial to co-produce a Dementia Strategy for Oldham which identifies the needs of the borough and any potential gaps. This in turn will inform future commissioning intentions ensuring the needs of the borough are addressed
